Cardioid Pattern

Shaped like a heart, this pattern is most sensitive to sound arriving from the front and least sensitive from the back (180 degrees off-axis).

Characteristics: Good sound isolation, reduces feedback, exhibits proximity effect (bass boost when close to source).

Common Uses: Vocals, live sound reinforcement, most studio applications where isolation is needed.
